Eternal Sailor Jupiter, Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon

Eternal Sailor Jupiter Worn At - Minamicon 15; Ayacon 2009; London Expo, October 2009
Difficulty - 3/5
Time Taken - 2 months
Cost - £70GBP
Costume Status -Retired
Hardest Task - Waist stripes, skirts
Easiest Task - Bodice, accessories

Favourite Aspect - Overall fuku - I like wearing this fuku. The pale green skirt gives additional "poof" without the need of a tulle skirt underneath. Everything came together fairly easily, too, from the sleeves to the sewing of the skirts, so it generally looks okay.

Least Favourite Broaches - prop making is not my strong point, and star shaped props are hard to make. But they look okay.

Why? - A friend of mine was saying she wanted to get an Eternal group together. I jumped at the chance to be Jupiter again and I just love the Eternal designs. Now I've made a couple of fukus, I've known where I've gone wrong in the past, and can skip those mistakes now.

Construction Notes

Right! Like with Sailor Jupiter and with Sailor Neptune before this, I started with Kwiksew pattern 2932. Cute the pattern pieces first for the bodice and made that out of a nice 4-way stretch lycra. Then cut the pieces for the skirt. Remembering this time that the skirts on the pattern are really short, so I cut them a lot longer than needed on purpose, so I could trim them to the correct length at a later date.

Once this had been done, the bottom pale green skirt, which is satin was sewn to the top half of the bodice, and then the top dark green skirt (also satin) on top of that. The pants part of the bodice was ten sewn own underneath, and hooks and eyes sewn on underneath to keep everything together once the fuku is on.

Next came the bubble sleeves. The bubble sleeves are chiffon. I decide on chiffon after looking around a lot on cos.com at other Eternal cosplays to see what they had used. Some people had used satin, and others had used chiffon. And in my personal opinion, the satin didn't look as good as the chiffon. I think it looked a bit garish sandwiched between the satin of the collar and the dark green sleeve cuffs, so thats why I chose to use chiffon. Anyway! Basically took two equal length and width sections of chiffon and pinned them to the inside of the sleeves of the bodice, gathering them at the top into a few pleats to make the sleeve "puff" the way it does on the artwork. Next I made the cuffs, which are dark green satin stuffed with wadding and sewn down the middle to make the '2 roll' effect. The other side of the chiffon bubble was sewn on by hand and there you go - bubble sleeves.

The boots were a real annoyance. First I tried to make them following LynLeigh's tutorial on boot covers, but the lycra I used was too thin. So scrapped that idea. I found a cheap pair of black zip up knew high boots and tried to paint them white. Which messed up the zip. Big time. I was about to give up when a lucky find on ebay found me some perfect white leatherette zip up knee high boots! Ordered them immediately and once they arrive glued green ribbon around the top, and glued on a fimo star, which had been painted gold and varnished.

The bows were fairly easy. The front bow I used from my original Sailor Jupiter costume and the back green bow I made using the same procedure. All the bows are attached with snap fasteners to keep them in place and sturdy. The biggest challenge, believe it or not, were the waist strips. I couldn't - for the life of me - figure out how to attach them without possibly ripping seams, because obvious lyrca is stretchy and ribbon isn't. Well, I finally decided on snap fasteners. Front the front at the navel area on the edges at the waist. The ones at the front are hidden nicely by the star pin. But the ones on the sides turned out to be un-necessary and just made the costume constricting. So rather irritated, I unpicked the four snap fasteners and am relying on the ones at the front and the bow to keep everything in place!

Then came all all the final accessories. Because I don't ahave pierced ears, I found some silver clip ons, and some emerald green star shaped decorations. These were glued onto the clip ons, to make them as close to the actual eternal earrings as possible. a tiara was made from craft foam. Many layers of gold acrylic paint, and sits on my head with hair extension clips sew on. A third star gem was glued onto the centre. The collar is just a short length of green ribbon with a snap fastener sewn on and another gold fimo star glued onto the centre.
