Feena, Grandia
Worn At - Amecon 2008
Difficulty - 2/5
Time Taken - 1 week
Cost - £80GBP
Costume Status -Retired
Hardest Task -Top
Easiest Task - Skirt
Favourite Aspect - The shoes and pack. I love the shoes for this cosplay. They’re fun and playful and really
comfortable. And the carry pack, which is completely useless, it’s a good prop (and really soft).
Least Favourite The top. It was uncomfortable, badly made and really inaccurate. Not to mention I could
barely BREATHE with it on. (Made my cleavage look good though.)
Why? - Grandia is one of my favourite games. Ever. I have immense love for it. And Feena is such a fun character! She's so bright and sassy, its hard
not to like her. So on a whim, when I had a week off from work I bought the material and decided to make this. My hommage to Grandia. Needless to day, this first version
wasn't great. Its since been remade. Much better.
Construction Notes
Because this was one of my first and earliest cosplays, I used an actual piece of clothing to build the top around.
I bought a cheap bra, and used that as a base. I sewn two secions of red material over both cups, and then covered those with the orange material. More red
material was used for the straps. I found a lovely tan/cream cotton in FabricLand for the sleeves, which I totally winged. I didn't make them as big and billowing
as Feena's actual sleeves, but they did. The patterns for the sleeves were all hand draw out and also hand sewn into place.
The skirt was the easiest thing in the world. Just a strip of fabric, hemmed. With a popper and couple of hooks and eyes to keep it up. The belt was again made using a
base. I bought a cheap belt and glued fabric to it. And to the buckle. Then hand painted the patterns. The shoes were a lucky find in Primark. They originally had some silly
tassles on them, which were easily cut off. Made the covers from the same material as the sleeves, glued them into place and then painted the patterns. To reinforce them I added
some interfacing, so they wouldn't blow about.
The side pouch is just felt with the pattern painted on. Its fully functional. And also attaches to the belt using two strips of elastic to keep it on. The carrying pack is two pieces of
felt sewn together and then stuffed. Pattern painted on again, and then the strap is just ribbon. It isn't functional, but it looks good.
Lastly the headcones were felt, filled with card to keep them reinforced. They're attached to a hair band. The dangle were felt also with the painted patterns. I was stupid enough to
glue these to my wig from cosworks. So unless I feel like cutting this wig to pieces for something, its pretty unusable.
The necklace was fimo moulded to the correct shape and then varnished.
