Feena, Grandia

Feena Worn At - London Expo, October 2008; Minamicon 15; Ayacon 2009
Difficulty - 2/5
Time Taken - 1 month
Cost - £50GBP
Costume Status -Semi-Active
Hardest Task -Top
Easiest Task - Skirt

Favourite Aspect - Wig and new top. I bought a new, much longer length green wig from professional_only on ebay. The length and colour was perfect and it was very easy to style so the fringe was the right length and the dangles were a bit short than the rest of her hair. And top I made using a pattern, so it fit much better and looked right. Its comfortable, and a lot more accurate (and thereby A LOT SHORTER) than my original one. D:

Least Favourite I don’t really have one. I’m annoyed I couldn’t figure out a way to get the headcones attached without using a headband...

Why? - As before, a hommage to one of my favourite games. I wanted so much to improve on my original version after wearing it to AmeCon can getting an astounding reaction. So as soon as I got home I decided to start on this. Its a lot better!

Construction Notes

Made mostly from the same materials as before, cottons and linin I used a pattern for the top half. It was a McCalls, and originally was for a camisole. But because camisoles have a segment that stops at the bust line that was all I used. It was fairly straight forward to make. Cut orange and red pieces of the same pattern. The red was the base and the orange an over layer. The straps were the same red fabric, and the sleeves lovely biscuit coloured cotton. I made the sleeves big and billowing thise time and they're a lot of fun to wear. Its like having wings! (Only not). The patterns on the sleeves are hand stitched into place. And its felt (good ol' felt!) And the top does up with velcro on the left side, hidden under my arm.

This costume required a new wig (as the original one I bought was too short). So I bought a lovely one from professional_only on ebay (I highly recommend them!) This one was much longer and I was able to pull it into a pony tail appropriately. I kept two segments free at the front to wrap in new dangles which were felt and painted. I also made new headcone. These are the best out of the three sets I've made. They are felt, stapled together on the inside then turned right side out. I reinforced them with interfacing so they're quite sturdy. They're attached to a green hair band and kept in place using see through elastic bands on the bottom and the top of the cone.

Finally, I decided to remake the belt. The original was too stiff, so I made a new one from a strip of pleather with the same biscuit colour material covering it, and again hand painted. Its kept together with elastic and snap fasteners.
