Leonie Heartilly
1. How long would you say you've been cosplaying, at a guess?
It'll be 2 years in October 09. But I was interested for quite a while before that.
2. What was it that made you interested in cosplay? Was it an outside influence,
like friends? Or a natural course that occoured as you grew up?
A friend introduced me to Japanese anime and manga and cosplay sorta goes hand in hand with that so...
3. What do you find you cosplay from mostly? Games? Anime? Manga? Disney? Do you crossplay? If so, who?
Most of my cosplays at the moment are from games but I have cosplayed from other
sources also. Just certain game themed one's I wished to do first.
4. What are your favourite costumes to do? Colourful ones? Really complicated ones? And why?
One's that look pretty lol To be honest it's more my connection to the character that
will make me wish to cosplay them. But if the costume involves pink it tends to help =p
5. Do you like to cosplay alone, or like to be involved in groups? Or both?
I say both. For example when I cosplayed Jill Valentine I got some awesome
solo photos of her but had such a laugh hanging out with a huge group of Resident Evil cosplayers
also. It was great to be recognised with so many of us together, loads of people wanted photos and
I met some amazing people thanks to it.
6. Do you have any dream cosplays or groups you'd like to do?
My dream cosplay at the moment is the Dead Fantasy version of
Rinoa Heartilly, complete with both weapons and a huge set of wings. I'm working on
this currently and it's going to be a challenge! But I'm determined to give it my best
shot =)
7. What would you say was the best thing about cosplaying, personally? And what would be your best experience to date?
I would say the social side to cosplaying is a huge bonus. Since I've been involved
in the cosplay "scene" I've met so many wonderful people and made some great new friends. You get the
odd idiots but it's in general a really friendly community to be a part of, at least in the UK.
Umm best experience to date would probably May 09 London Expo in general. Hanged out with awesome
people, debuted a costume that was made by myself with positive feedback, got some beatiful photos
and overall had an amazing time ^-^
8. I know most people hate to do this, but out of the cosplays you've done, which ... three, say, are your favourites and why?
Rinoa Heartilly- Final Fantasy VIII. I love her costume and character
in general and I've been such a picky arse over it. I keep looking to improve her and I don't
think I'll ever tire of wearing this costume.
Kairi- Kingdom Hearts II. My first hand-made costume so I will always have a sense of
pride and achievement with this one. Also I love her wig! It's so vibrant and silky.
Jill Valentine- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The original version of this was a last minute
cheap put-together. But then I improved her and it's barely recognisable from the original.
So I guess I like this one as it shows what a difference makes with some money, time and
effort. She's really comfy to wear also and I liked this was my first more "adult" costume
(most my cosplays are young girls).
9. For anyone looking to enter into the cosplay scene, what advice would you give?
Start off simple. You don't want to attempt something really
difficult at first and then be put off when it doesn't go right. You can always
work up to bigger things.
