Rogue, Ragnarok Online
Worn At - Amecon 2008
Difficulty - 2/5
Time Taken - 2 weeks
Cost - £40GBP
Costume Status -Semi-Active
Hardest Task - Coat
Easiest Task - Hair, belt
Favourite Aspect - Everything. This outfit is one of my favourites. Despite how simple it is. It was fun to make, fun to wear. I just love it.
Least Favourite I guess if I had to nit pick, lack of suitable shoes. I had to wear flat, shiny ballet pumps which were accurate, but looked wrong. I did buy a pair of rough leather pumps but they really killed my feet
and ate my heel so badly I could barely wear shoes for a week.
Why? - This was a last minute descision for AmeCon. Ragnarok Online is one of my favourite games. Its a P2P online game, and I was addicted to it, unhealthily so, for months a few
years ago! Rogue were always a favourite class. And it seemed a good first cosplay from Ragnarok Online. Not too many details, so it wouldn't take me ages, as I only had a week to finish this.
Construction Notes
Because the outfit is made up basically around a large coat, I started that first. I used rayon to make this, and basically took my shoulder, hip and waist measurements, marked them out
and cut around them. Cutting a scalloped shape back, with a V-shape cut out of the back. I made two panels, the same size for the front and pinned and sewed them into place.
Next came the sleeves. The sleeves were just two equal length and width strips of material sewn into place. Fair simple and also very comfortable. I bought a cheap pair of shorts from Primark, cut off all the
decorative pieces (uncessary belts etc) so they were just plain shorts. The tights and belt were also a bargains from Primark.
Lining the entire coat and the shorts with fur took a whole afternoon. The fur is synthetic, and it shed EVERYWHERE when it was cut. I cut it into strips of roughly equal width and slip-stitched it all into place.
The headgear is an actual in game my Gank Rogue has. I found a lovely seller on eBay who sold Ragnarok Online headgears. The ones I have are called Sohee Bells. They're brilliantly noisey and I love them.
One of the best things about this costume was not wearing a wig!
